Sha’ar HaBitachon - Episode Ninety-One , ÉÉ ~ ! Faith deficiencies lead to a distorted sense of reality; a confusion about what really causes things to happen and how we can get the things we want. This is especially true when it comes to the honour and self-aggrandizement so many covet. Spiritually intuition enables you to successfully see part the façade. Nurturing your innate Trust in Hashem can enable you to avoid the misguided lavishing of honour of the wealthy and instead direct homage to Hashem! A virtuous life and spiritual affluence, not material plenitude, will bring one true esteem from others. Because when all is said and done not everything that attracts attention is necessarily honourable! Much of this is caused by the "Folly of the Populace" who seek to profit from flattery. Which itself is rooted in a lack of understanding that everything comes only from Hashem. Instead, they should be Honouring Hashem. Speaking of true causes, it is here that Rabbainu Bachaya chooses to address the wholly mistaken notion that the medium is the cause of success. For ultimately, it is all but a mindless mechanism or tool on the hands of the Creator! Rabbi Mendel Kaplan
